Your privacy choices
Genodex · Draft for legal review
Draft for legal review — not approved for production publication. Last updated: August 11, 2026.
This page explains the privacy choices currently available in Genodex. It distinguishes information stored only on your device, information held by Genodex or its providers, and genomic data you have deliberately made public.
For a formal access, correction, export, or deletion request, email joe@genodex.org from the address associated with your account. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.
Keep genomic exploration private
Importing a compatible raw DNA file and calculating supported educational GWAS-based results does not, by itself, publish the genome. The raw file, local variant index, and local results remain on your device unless you choose a connected feature.
You can remove a local genome from within the app. Clearing the app’s data or uninstalling it may also remove local information, subject to device or cloud backups controlled by you and your operating-system provider.
To keep an exploration private:
do not complete the publish-genome flow;
do not use an AI feature for a result you do not want transmitted to OpenAI;
review device-backup settings separately; and
protect access to your device and account.
Understand connected features
Connected features send information to perform the action you request:
Publish genome: uploads the genomic archive and related record to Genodex infrastructure and makes the contribution public under CC0.
AI reports: send selected calculated results and connected scientific facts to OpenAI for explanation.
Genome Chat: sends relevant result context, your message, and recent conversation context to OpenAI.
Account and community features: send account, profile, messages, comments, annotations, or other submitted content to Firebase and Google Cloud services.
Purchases: use Apple App Store or Google Play and RevenueCat to process the purchase and manage entitlements.
Notifications: use Firebase Cloud Messaging and your operating system to deliver enabled notifications.
Avoid a connected feature if you do not want the information described for that feature transmitted.
Export information held by Genodex
The app provides a personal-data export for server-side information associated with your account. Depending on your use, an export may include account and profile records, preferences, community or app data stored under your user record, and related metadata.
Local-only genomic files and results may not be included because Genodex does not receive them through local calculation. A public genomic contribution may be represented by its server record or identifiers and may also be directly available through the public catalog.
If the in-app export is unavailable or incomplete, email joe@genodex.org. Describe the information you want and send the request from your account email. Do not send a raw genome as an email attachment.
Request correction
You can edit supported profile information in the app. For information that cannot be corrected there, email joe@genodex.org and identify the relevant record.
Scientific source records and public-project data may come from third parties. Genodex can correct its own presentation or provenance where appropriate but may direct a source-data correction to the originating project.
Remove local data or request server deletion
The current in-app control labeled Delete Account removes local genome records and related local files and then signs you out. It does not, by itself, delete your Firebase Authentication account or all information stored on Genodex servers.
To request deletion of an authentication account or server-side information, email joe@genodex.org from the account address. State whether you are requesting account deletion, deletion of particular private records, removal of a Genodex-hosted public contribution, or all legally available actions. We may request additional verification.
Deletion rights and exceptions depend on applicable law. Security records, transaction records, legal records, backups, and information needed to establish or defend claims may be retained where permitted or required. A store subscription must be cancelled separately through Apple App Store or Google Play; deleting data or signing out does not cancel billing.
Public genomes cannot be made private again everywhere
Publishing a genome is an explicit public action. The uploaded genomic archive and associated public data are intended for open reuse under CC0. Genomic information is inherently identifying and may reveal information about biological relatives. It must not be treated as anonymous.
You may ask Genodex to remove a hosted public contribution. Genodex will evaluate the request under applicable law and operational capability. Removal from Genodex-controlled hosting cannot:
revoke the CC0 dedication for rights already released;
recover copies downloaded, indexed, mirrored, or redistributed by others;
undo research, commercial, or other downstream uses; or
guarantee removal from search engines, caches, archives, or other datasets.
If you do not accept those consequences, do not publish the genome.
AI choices
The scientific score is calculated by the Genodex engine, not by OpenAI. AI reports and Genome Chat are optional. If you use them, selected facts and your request are sent to OpenAI, and the current integration has response storage enabled.
You can avoid new AI transmissions by not requesting an AI report and not using Genome Chat. For a request concerning AI inputs or outputs held by Genodex, contact joe@genodex.org. Provider retention and deletion remain subject to the applicable OpenAI controls and legal requirements.
Notifications, analytics, and purchases
Notification permissions can be changed in the app where available and in your device settings. Disabling notifications does not remove an existing account.
Analytics and crash reporting help Genodex understand use and failures. Available operating-system privacy controls may affect some collection.
Subscription cancellation and refunds are managed by the store where you purchased. RevenueCat reflects entitlement status but does not replace store cancellation.
Do Not Sell or Share requests
Genodex does not sell raw genomic files or account information for money. Some privacy laws define "sale," "sharing," targeted advertising, sensitive-data use, or consumer-health-data authorization more broadly. Genodex does not claim that one sentence resolves every jurisdictional definition.
To submit a "Do Not Sell or Share," sensitive-data, or similar statutory request, email joe@genodex.org and identify your jurisdiction and request. Public CC0 contributions remain subject to the limitations above.
Contact and counsel review
Privacy questions and rights requests: joe@genodex.org.
Counsel review required: Before production publication, qualified counsel must confirm the available rights, response deadlines, verification process, authorized-agent process, appeals and regulator contacts, consumer-health and genetic-data requirements, and whether additional opt-out mechanisms are required.
