This reference genome is built from the gnomAD v4 — Genomes African (AFR) ancestry group, registered under PRJNA398795, aggregating short-read whole-genome data from ~41k individuals assigned to the AFR genetic-ancestry cluster. African ancestry cohorts exhibit the highest global genetic diversity and the shortest average linkage-disequilibrium blocks, with pronounced substructure across West, East, Central, and Southern Africa and characteristic admixture in African-diaspora populations. Here we collapse the study-wide SNP allele counts into a per-locus consensus genotype baseline and use it as a comparative anchor across populations.
